The Aayushi — A reference for the Indian given name | theaayushi.com
Say AA-yu-shi: three syllables, with the stress and the length both on the first beat.
Aayushi is pronounced in three syllables — AA-yu-shi — with the stress on the long first syllable. Nothing in the name is silent and no beat is swallowed: the rhythm is one heavy beat followed by two light ones.
Step one, about a minute: split the name into its three beats and say them separately — AA, yu, shi. Step two, three to four minutes: work on the first vowel alone. AA is the long open 'ah' of the Devanagari आ, held roughly twice as long as a short a; say 'ah' for two slow counts, then add yu.
On narrow screens, swipe or scroll the plate sideways.
Step three, two to three minutes: fix the stress. Put the weight on AA and let yu and shi fall light and level after it. Step four, about two minutes: join the beats at normal speaking speed until AA-yu-shi comes out as one word, not three.
Three mispronunciations cover most corrections. 'AY-oo-shee' replaces the long AA with the English diphthong of 'day'. 'Uh-YOO-shi' moves the stress to the middle beat. 'AA-yoo-shoo' rounds the final i into an u. Each error belongs to one step: vowel quality, stress placement, or the final syllable.
The doubled A in the Roman spelling exists precisely to protect that first beat: it marks the long आ of आयुषी. The meaning of the name and the root it comes from are set out on the meaning page; the letter-by-letter numerology is on the home page.
